WELCOME

Hello! I am Dr. Caitlin Wicks, PsyD.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist. My work emphasizes a depth-oriented, humanistic, and socially conscious approach.

I am highly skilled at working with depression, anxiety, and relational stress. My work is trauma-informed and relational. Specifically, I treat emotion dysregulation (fear, anger, sadness, anxiety, dissociation). I treat disordered eating, trauma, and help improve individuals' moods, relationships, work-life, and family dynamics.

I treat individuals, adults, children, adolescents, couples, and parents. I work with all those who seek better mental health, and especially welcome those who identify as immigrant, BIPOC, and/or queer.

I individualize treatment modality based on your needs, weaving together Jungian, psychodynamic and behavioral techniques. My goal is always to improve your quality of life. This often involves revealing and transforming the unconscious motivations, thoughts, and behavior patterns that trap you, or keep you from reaching your full potential.

My approach is active and collaborative: I provide a place for your story to unfold so that we can think together about what might be fueling your suffering. Together, we find solutions that work for you.

I am deeply curious and enjoy exploring and adventuring, which is reflected in the attentive and inclusive way I work as a therapist. At the same time, I am organized and structured, and am highly motivated to guide you in consistently working towards your treatment goals.

MY PHILOSOPHY

According to the American Psychological Association, “Psychologists help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.”

When we are anxious or in despair, we can’t think straight or engage our usual survival strategies. It can impact our health, body, emotions, relationships, perception of self and reality. We can't make sense of the distorted thoughts alone. We need a therapist to help guide us.

I am trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities and individualize treatment, based on your needs. My goal is always to improve quality of life. This often involves revealing and transforming the unconscious motivations, thoughts, and behavior patterns that trap us, or keep us from reaching our full potential.

I integrate Jungian techniques like active imagination, dream analysis, and personality typology, with Relational Psychotherapy, and an analytic Psychodynamic approach to facilitate the development of insight and self awareness. I help my patients develop mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness skills using variety of modalities including the skills associated with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and CBT techniques. When appropriate, I use expressive arts and play therapy approaches to help integrate and externalize the inner world.

There are points in our lives when we experience difficulties or distress that we cannot manage on our own. In psychotherapy these difficulties become opportunities for growth, development of greater self-awareness, and healing. Healing is a natural process, but sometimes it is difficult to remember that fact.

Psychotherapy often involves navigating the impact of intergenerational trauma on the individual and resolving unhelpful relationship patterns. I approach healing from a multicultural perspective, aware of the individual and the collective.

As we listen together you will begin to hear yourself in new ways, experience an expansion of self knowledge, recognize problematic patterns, and meet new parts of yourself.

Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.
